We're
now the owners of two classic automobiles, a 1966 Ford F-100 Pickup,
and a 1978 Volkswagen Super Beetle Convertible.
The
Truck

The
truck is a 1966 Ford F100 pickup. It belonged to Lisa's grandfather in
South Dakota,
and for some insane reason, both Lisa's dad and I thought it would be
a great idea to keep it and not sell it.
He brought it back on a trailer from South Dakota, and after getting the
brakes and carburator fixed,
turned it over to me.
I titled the truck and ordered collector plates and started work.
It took me about four months, working between 20 and 40 hours a week in
the garage.
I replaced the fenders, radiator, shocks, rear bumper, hoses, rear cab
corners, front cab mounts, floorpans, tires and tailgate.
I sprayed the underside with Zero-Rust paint and painted the engine. I
found a set of original wheel
covers on ebay and I added a seat cover and carpet.
Lisa's dad had it painted and a spray in bedliner added and that completed
the project! This was easily the
single most difficult thing I've ever taken on. I can't say I'd do it
again, but now that it's
done, I'm really happy with the results!

The
Bug

After
having some expensive repairs to Lisa's car, we decided it might be
a good idea to get a car that would be inexpensive to work on, and that
I could work on myself for the most part. We started looking at old VW
Beetles,
and stumbled upon this one at Yesterday's
Auto in Uptown.
It's a 1978 VW Super Beetle Convertible that's only had one owner and
is in beautiful
shape. The car is a lot of fun, and because it's built on the Super Beetle
platform,
it handles better and drives better than standard Bugs.
We'll be driving it as a daily driver in the summer, but will need to
get a winter beater
to avoid getting the VW full of salt. I've always wanted a Beetle as my
dad had three when I was growing
up. They're just really cool cars.
